652 The BBC on Internet Censorship

I’ve just come back from a fascinating week at the Global Voices Citizen Media Summit in Budapest. Lots to think about (I’m still mulling over questions raised in a session about cross-cultural deafness and misunderstanding around the online campaign pegged to the 2008 Olympics, for example), but in the meantime, this great report from the BBC:

  2. Probably because I presented at the end of a long day and the airconditioning wasn’t strong enough. Everyone was probably half-asleep or checking Facebook. 😉

  3. and I also heard you were arguing for some kind of censorship. Haven’t we already proven that Article XIX is by-passed by technology? Can it be done?

  4. I absolutely was not! Is that what Alaa is telling people? Sheesh. At one point, in a Q&A for someone else’s presentation, I asked what the argument was in favor of NOT censoring kiddie porn or hate speech. Not a rhetorical question.

  6. Thnaks for that BBC clip. I am actually reading an advanced copy of Antony Loewenstein’s wonderful book which led me to your blog. I am reviewing it for Australia book trade publication Bookseller & Publisher. It’s a fantastic book and I hope it brings a stronger audience to the blogs of dissenters worldwide, at least to give people a wider perspective. 🙂 I will come again.

  7. Thanks for the visit, Literary Minded. I’m happy to have found your blog as well. I haven’t seen Antony’s book. He interviewed me for it, but how did it lead you to my blog? I can’t imagine you googled everyone in it?
